Where did the word "barbeque" or "barbecue" originate? No one really knows, but it appears a toss up between these two theories:
  • Barbacoa - the Caribbean word meaning a "framework of sticks" which suspended the meat over a flame to cook
  • Barbe de que - A French term describing the roasting of an animal from barbe (chin) to que (tail)

Kids "R" Kookin' - 4 day camps (ages 7-17) - $299.00

Stir it up... If your kids always want to help out in the kitchen, or if you'd like to get your youngster excited about food, then we have a four day camp for you. Kids "R" Kookin' takes the concept of summer camp to a whole new level. The Culinary Institute of Canada offers kids aged 7 to 17 the opportunity to learn how to cook from the very best. Our camps feature action packed days in the kitchen, where they learn all about culinary arts through demonstrations and hands-on experience.

What Others Are Saying

"My daughter absolutely LOVED the camp AND we've already made omelets, hash browns and lava cakes! I hope the camps continue because she would enjoy going back again next year."

"The camp was really fun and the recipes were appropriate for the age group. My son already mentioned that he wants to go back!"

"I only have positive things to say about the camp, skills learned, quality of instruction and confidence developed. VERY IMPRESSIVE!"

Kids don the chef's white jacket, learn about spices, herbs, meats, vegetables, and starches and play as they cook. Our menus are designed to be age-appropriate; incorporate a variety of culinary techniques and skills; to appeal to and develop younger palates, and to help children discover the process and pleasure of cooking and sharing food together. At the end of each day, they take home a recipe card, so they'll be able to show off their newly-acquired skills to the rest of the family, and at the end of camp, they take home their own chef's apron.

Our boot camps are based on a minimum booking of 10 kids with a maximum of 16. Camps are subject to availability and applicable taxes.
